[Long Beach, California – May 13, 2010] This year marked the 18th year, Savor has been the master concessionaire for the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach. Savor pulled out all the stops on the track for the threeday event, catering to 175,000 spectators. Fans turned out to see their racing favorites in America's #1 street race and enjoy the fun in the sun along the midway.
From the exclusive, expansive track-side suites and tents to food services along the boardwalk surrounding the Long Beach Arena and Convention Center's promenade, Savor had dining options for every taste and budget. Savor trademark pit stops were complemented by locally sub-contracted vendors that offered a diverse menu of items. More than 200 points of sale at 80 operations along the 1.9 mile track ensured fans didn't miss any of the racing action.
“We created micro environments throughout the race area that added enhanced comfort and hospitality to the racing days for the visitors, something that VIPs had come to expect, but now something all attendees could enjoy,” said Shaun Beard, senior vice president, Savor. Themed areas included sports bars with pool tables, cantinas with DJs and track-side viewing, and a popular second-floor Club Patron each with their own specialty food and beverage items. Drawing in visitors, the environments provided entertainment and increased their length of stay.
Savor operated all alcohol services on the track, staffing multiple beer locations and themed carts, Tecate Catinas and Tecate Sports Bar. The wine gardens, set under adorned pergolas, this year featured specialty cheeses, McManis wines and Korbell champagne. The improved garden theme and branding resulted in significant increases in revenue. This year, Savor rolled out expanded alcohol awareness training for their staff call “Savor Safe”. The program includes secret shoppers, additional training hours and heightened awareness.
Savor was full speed ahead with an expanded recycling program that composted 2.4 tons in addition to recycling glass, plastic, cardboard and aluminum. A founding partner of the Aquarium of the Pacific's “Seafood for the Future”, Savor also supplied Grand Prix fans sustainable seafood options. Long Beach Grand Prix has also announced their decision to renew their relationship with Savor for the next five years.
